Multitask

Everybody multitasks.

It’s a dogma like everybody lies.

Nowadays its a curse, linked to the idea that if you multitask you are being more productive.

It is very simple not to multitask, the requirements are just one, willing to. But I can humbly suggest some guidelines not to multitask, and agreeing that is something bad for you body and mind, the reasons why we all do it just doesn’t matter. At least not much.

1. So it is all about focus, focus and focus. We have being told not to, it is not a conspiracy to make everybody more stupid, it is just the way things in modern world have evolved. And the society is in a great lack os focus.

2. Start deflecting, diverting, all that junk it is thrown all over you everyday mercilessly.

3. If it doesn’t works, well; perhaps the big problem is that we can’t say no anymore. No to everything else besides what we are doing. So start trying to say no.

4. Need of acceptance. So every body will love you because you answer the phone, write an essay, have dinner with you wife and take a walk with the dog?

5. Lack of simplicity, minimalism, or just uncluttering. Both ways:

A. Your mind.

B. Your space, work or home.

The lack of unnecessary things helps a lot to focus.

6. Mind like water is a good mantra. You are answering your emails, so the phone is ringing, the dog is barking, and you just remember that you ran out of milk. So what? Wanna try doing all of it, at the same time?

7. Create. That’s it create your own system os doing things, or as Bill Westerman says getting sh-t done. (Visit his blog ùtilware for more info. No links, finish reading this and then only then; visit his blog. Remember is about focus). Of course you can use others system, but the system has to adapt to you and never the other way around. And always remember that is all about doing not how.

A. So the hole idea is to create our own system, point being, now is time to answer the emails, then return phone calls, etc. Having a system, a way of doing, that you like created by you, will allow you be more comfortable avoiding the distractions.

B. A personal GTD system helps maintain the goals, and those days that run out of control; you are gonna feel terrible and will start trying keep in course to achieve what you have proposed to yourself early in the morning.

8.  Piano piano si va lontano. Well perhaps we do have an idea of Italy being a political chaos, but let us not forget that they have once ruled the world. And I really don’t imagine the roman society just multitasking. So I consider this a good mantra. Because the constant need for speed have one consequence, multitask always. Keep it slow but always going.

9. Create a daily routine. Just like a computer for some tasks.

10. Stay physically active. Remember that we were born to move, it is in our essence and it was one of the causes of our species being dominant. I’m convinced it is responsible for the development of the brain; so if you exercise it is going to be easier to concentrate.
