Still thinking

Blackberry

Ok, today is Blackberry, iphone, the hell you want to call those little devices of slavish.

I think about all the major accomplishes humanity had over the last century, and how they where possible without being connected to the Skynet 14 hours a day. How people made business during all these years just… Talking to each other?

You think is a need to do what you gotta do, but is not.

I have one, and is even a nextel radio, so other users in the planet can just push to talk about everything every hour of the day, mercilessly.

Besides we don’t became more productive because of that, we thing we are, a simple call; a walk in the park just talking face to face; would save thousands of emails coming and going and forwards and replies. Well that requires eye contact and we can perfectly avoid that with those devices. Fear leads to slavish.

Just some years ago I read a paper about some Scandinavian country where they used to have business meetings while on the saunas. Lack of clothes means low defenses and that was one, at least pointed the paper, of the reasons of the company success. And I believe that.

Well beside thinking is a need to be productive there’s another issue. The control freak. Yeah. If you don’t control it well makes some people just get nuts. We try desperate to control every single aspect of our lives everyday, and if you just check your email account once a day, well lets say you do so at night. May God you missed the hole day.

Third point. Being polite, you don’t need to stop everything you are doing when your cell phone starts ringing. It says somebody needs to talk with you, is not God calling you with a direct message. How many people can focus on what they are doing and just let the thing ring till it dies! You own the thing not the other way around. Inverting the roles is a major problem in almost every modern society these days. I can remember seeing a couple during a romantic dinner on a Saturday evening, and one of them just stop the conversation to pick up. From the tone of the conversation was not a medical emergency. Blackberrys are not causing divorces, but that attitude definitely yes. You should respect and be polite to your couple.

Think about it, the ultimate luxury is not having a cellphone. Call me at work, or call me at home if you are family. I have phones in both places. Wanna call me while I’m in the shower or what?

I thinking very seriously on giving up on the device. Or maybe just leaving it in the car for safety, remember I’m in Brazil. If I do really the experience I will comment it here.
